As you are beginning to spring clean your house, don’t forget to spring clean your smile too! It is essential to practice good oral care habits and have an oral health routine to maintain your smile. From time to time, our patients can fall off their oral health routines, but now is the best time to get your mouth care back in shape.
Oral Care Tips
Look at your current oral care habits and evaluate areas for improvement. Are you flossing every day? Do you forget to brush your teeth before you fall asleep at night? It’s important to do the basics like brushing your teeth twice a day, but there are additional things you can do to improve your oral health and spring clean your smile.
- Change out your toothbrush or electric toothbrush head. You should only use your toothbrush for three months before you need to replace it with a new one. After three months, the bristles will probably be frayed, start to fall out, and be less effective when brushing. It would be best to replace your toothbrush or electric toothbrush head after being sick to avoid the built-up bacteria and potentially reinfecting yourself.
- Invest in mouth wash. If you don’t already use mouthwash daily, now is a great time to start. Mouthwash kills bacteria in your mouth that can infect your teeth and gums causing gingivitis. While it is not a replacement for daily brushing and flossing, mouthwash can prevent plaque buildup, strengthen enamel, and prevent tooth decay. If you already use mouthwash, make sure to check the expiration date and replace the bottle if it is expired.
- Try whitening your teeth. You deserve to be confident in your smile and not self-conscious that your teeth are not bright or white enough. At Chestnut Ridge Dental, we are proud to offer professional teeth whitening with one of our in-house light activated whitening systems, GLO Professional Whitening and Philips Zoom. Our experts can painlessly improve the beauty of your smile, helping boost your confidence. Feel like your best self this spring with a white bright smile!
- Schedule your regular cleaning and exam with Chestnut Ridge Dental. Regular dentist appointments play an important role in maintaining a healthy smile. It is recommended that you visit the dentist every six months for a checkup and a cleaning with one of our dentists. Regular dental visits allow us to deep clean and polish your teeth, as well as check your teeth and gums for any cavities or early signs of tooth decay or gingivitis.
